Saturday

9 a.m. "The lull before the storm." Cloudy skies, light winds, a very cold 22 degrees F (it feels like 12 degrees). No flurries to report as of yet.

10 a.m. Cloudy, light winds, a very cold 23 degrees F (it still feels like 12 degrees). Still no flurries.

11 a.m. Cloudy, light winds, a very cold 24 degrees F (it feels like 13 degrees). Flurries expected to fall within the hour. Supermarkets are busy.

12 p.m. We're still below freezing: 26 degrees F and feeling more like 15. There's a 40 percent chance of snow for the next few hours. Local meteorologists are reporting that the real stuff will start to fall heavy and hard by 4 p.m.

1 p.m. Cloudy and not a flurry. 25 degrees F and it feels like a bitter 14. Expect to see flurries at 3 p.m.

2 p.m. Still waiting for the white stuff. We're now at 26 degrees, and the wind is picking up with gusts of 20 mph. According to the Weather Channel, at or near freezing (32 deg.), is ideal for snow accumulation.

2:45 p.m. Flurries.

4:45 p.m. No flurries, but the wind is picking up. Meterologists say our patch should see 12 to 18 inches by morning.

6:30 p.m. Light snow beginning to stick.

8 p.m. Steady snow. Two inches and accumulating.

9 p.m. Police receive reports of vandalism, when a resident notices small footprints and faulty Christmas lights.

Overnight On three separate occaions, Darien Police give residents rides home. The cold weather has rendered their own cars inoperable. One car is towed from Old Kings Highway South.

Sunday

6 a.m. Snow is tapering off. A few flurries linger.

8 a.m. Snow has stopped. Average snowfall: 10 inches from the ground.

  • Boys Ice Hockey at WHHS 1:00 p.m. ON AS SCHEDULED
  • Girls Ice Hockey at Darien 8:20 p.m. POSTPONED TO TBA
  • Holiday Open House at the Duffs 2-4 p.m. ON AS SCHEDULED

Sunday

  • Metro North's New Haven Line service will not run Shopper's Specials and will operate on a regular Sunday schedule: http://patch.com/seVZ
