Metro North train service between Stamford and New Canaan was interrupted Monday morning when a train struck a vehicle crossing over unprotected but warning signal-activated tracks in the Glenbrook neighborhood.
According to Metro North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders, Drew Choos, 19, of Darien, was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler when he made a wrong turn into the Riverbend office park along Riverbend Drive South and started to make a U-turn. When he crossed onto the tracks, where Anders said warning lights and bells had been activated, the train was almost upon him.
Anders said the 10:02 a.m. Northbound train heading into New Canaan for 10:19 a.m. "clipped" the jeep. Choos was taken to Stamford Hospital with what Anders described as a "minor shoulder injury."
The crossing is a private crossing, not a county or state controlled crossing, Anders said.
Choose was "inattentive," Anders said, and was issued a summons by police for driving through a signal. The car had been removed from the scene by 11 a.m.
