Five Things to Know About Darien, May 11

Who's Afraid of Opera?: From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today, the Darien Senior Center hosts Darien resident and opera veteran Arden Anderson-Broecking for the first in a series of lectures titled "?" Anderson-Broecking will discuss operatic excerpts from Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner and Strauss.

Mother's Day High Tea: The senior center will also host a Mother's Day high tea this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Children and grandchildren are welcome to attend.

Library Films: The hosts  two film screenings today. The first, at 2 p.m., is The Dilemma, a 2011 film about a man who discovers his best friend's wife is having an affair. The second, at 7 p.m., is A Class Divided, a 1986 documentary about a teacher who gave her students preferential treatment based on eye color for two days to teach them about the effects of racial stereotyping. Bulk Pickup: Darien's  continues today and runs Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June 21. Residents must make appointments (one free per household) using the town's service request form or by calling 203-656-7374.
