Five Things to Know About Darien, May 4

The King's Speech: The Darien Library's Wednesday Matinee Film Series continues today at 2 p.m. with The King's Speech. The 2010 film chronicles the struggles of King George IV to overcome a stammer — as well as family and political challenges — with the aid of speech therapist Lionel Logue.

e-Book Open House: The library is also hosting an e-Book open house today, where staff will provide information on how to download books to your mobile device using its new OverDrive service. Drop by any time from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Bulk Pickup: Darien's  continues today and runs Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June 21. Residents must make appointments (one free per household) using the town's service request form or by calling 203-656-7374.

Boards and Commissions: Meeting tonight at Town Hall are the Environmental Protection Commission (7:30 p.m., room 206) and the Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters (7:30 p.m., room 213).

Tapering Offer: Showers should taper off around the area today by 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, with a daytime high of around 56°. There's a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, too.
