Slideshow: GOP's Foley Tours Local Vendors

The Republican candidate for governor dropped by farmers market stalls and surrounding businesses Wednesday.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley was in town Wednesday morning to meet with local voters at the Darien Farmers Market and neighboring shops.

Passing through stalls and storefronts for a quick chat, the businessman and former ambassador to Ireland asked retailers how they were faring in the current economy and promised to ease burdens on small businesses if elected. He was joined on his tour by State Rep. Terrie Wood, First Selectman Dave Campbell, and selectmen Jayme Stevenson and Jerry Nielsen.

Foley is facing off with Democrat and former Stamford mayor Dan Malloy for the governor's mansion. The latest poll—a Rasmussen survey conducted Aug. 11—showed Malloy with a 48 to 33 percent lead over Foley.
