Monsignor Named Temp Administrator of Bridgeport Diocese

Monsignor Jerald A. Doyle has been chosen to serve as temporary administrator of the Diocese of Bridgeport until a new bishop is selected, according to the Connecticut Post.

Doyle, 68, was chosen by a group of 11 consultors at a meeting held last Friday. He will manage the diocese on a daily basis until a successor to Bishop William E. Lori is chosen and installed. Doyle has served as Episcopal vicar for administration since 2007. Prior to that he served in parishes in Bridgeport, Trumbull, Norwalk and Stratford. Because Doyle's temporary role does not allow him to ordain priests or deacons, an auxiliary bishop from Baltimore will ordain new deacons for the diocese in June.

Brian Wallace, a spokesperson for the diocese, told the Post that it may take up to Lori, who announced that he was , was formally installed as the 16th Archbishop of Baltimore last week.
