Pictures: 2009 Election Campaign Rallies

This past weekend, both the Democrats and the Republicans held kick-off campaign rallies.

Under sunny skies this weekend, both the Democrat and Republican candidates for the Board of Selectmen held rallies to kick off their campaigns for the upcoming November election.

On Saturday, First Selectwoman nominee Callie Sullivan and running mate Selectman David Bayne addressed a crowd of friends, family and fans at the new Democratic Town Committee headquarters on the Post Road.

First Selectwoman Evonne Klein addressed the crowd, endorsing Sullivan and Bayne. Democratic Town Committee Chairman John Davis, along with Darien's two State Senators, Bob Duff and Andrew McDonald, urged all those in attendance to work and vote for the Democrats’ election.

“It was a beautiful afternoon and a very positive event,” said Bayne.

The following afternoon, the Republican nominees for Board of Selectmen, Dave Campbell (leading the ticket), Jerry Nielsen and Jayme Stevenson, held their campaign rally. A crowd of loyal fans, interested residents, friends and family gathered at the Grove Street Plaza in downtown Darien, to support the candidates and learn more about their platform.

State Representative Terrie Wood introduced the candidates, and Republican Town Committee Chairman Harry Artinian rallied for the crowd’s support.

“The rally was terrific!” said Stevenson, “We had a wonderful turnout and the weather were perfect.”
