Flash Flood Warning Issued for Fairfield County

Heavy winds and rain moved through the area Thursday afternoon.

Update, 12:55 p.m.: 

The severe thunderstorm warning for Fairfield County has expired, but a flash flood warning remains in effect.

A flash flood warning is also in effect through 3:15 p.m.

"National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated locally heavy rainfall ongoing over the warned area, with a second batch of locally heavy rainfall on the way that will produce flash flooding over the warned area," the NWS warned.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Darien and surrounding areas, in effect through 12:45 p.m.

"At 11:57 a.m. ... radar indiciated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the service reported. "The storms were located along a line extending from Mount Kisco to White Plains ... and moving east at 30 mph."

"In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm," the service warned.
