Stevenson: Parents, Use Your Judgment on Getting Kids to School

Here is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson's Sunday afternoon reverse-911 "Red Code" recorded telephone message to Darien on storm recovery efforts in town:

Darien Public Schools will be open tomorrow on a 90 minute delayed schedule.  Schools will also be open Tuesday, Election Day, on a 90 minute delay.  Students were originally scheduled to have Election Day (Tuesday) off, but in an endeavor to resume some normalcy to school, school will be in session.

Parents must use extreme caution getting their children to and from bus stops and schools.  Never go near downed wires of any kind.  If you have any concern about your students getting safely to school, drive them if possible.

Where electricity is returning

Seventy-two percent of the Town of Darien has power.  Restoration estimates by area of town is as follows:

  • The area bounded by Andrews Drive east to Raymond Street and Five Mile River Road between the shoreline north to Tokeneke Road should see significant restoration by late tonight or tomorrow morning.
  • The area bounded by Old Kings Highway South and Delafield Island Road from the shoreline north to I-95 should see significant restoration by late tonight or tomorrow morning.
  • The area bounded by Brookside Road east to the Norwalk town line from I-95 north to Stephen Mather has an estimated time of restoration of Tuesday evening at 11:30pm.  There are 35 trouble spots along the circuit.  Some homes will see power before Tuesday evening.
  • The area bounded by Hoyt Street east to Mansfield Avenue from Middlesex Road north to Talmadge Hill Road has an estimated time of restoration for Tuesday evening at 11:30pm.  There are 40 trouble spots throughout the circuit.  Some homes will see power before Tuesday evening.
  • The area that includes the West Avenue corridor from the Stamford town line to Leroy Avenue and the Mansfield Avenue corridor from the Post Road to the New Canaan town line will see partial restoration by late tonight or tomorrow morning.  There are 41 trouble spots along this circuit.

If you're online, you can check

If you have access to internet, you can check the status of your individual address by going online at www.cl-p.com and follow the Storm Center links to your account information.  If power to your neighborhood is restored but your home is not, please report your continued outage to CL&P at 1-800-286-2000.  Your problem may be more localized or internal to your own electrical system.

As circuits are reenergized, extreme caution should be used near any downed wires.

I will provide another update Monday afternoon.

Thank you.
