Stevenson: Parents, Use Your Judgment on Getting Kids to School

Here is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson's Sunday afternoon reverse-911 "Red Code" recorded telephone message to Darien on storm recovery efforts in town:

Darien Public Schools will be open tomorrow on a 90 minute delayed schedule.  Schools will also be open Tuesday, Election Day, on a 90 minute delay.  Students were originally scheduled to have Election Day (Tuesday) off, but in an endeavor to resume some normalcy to school, school will be in session.

Parents must use extreme caution getting their children to and from bus stops and schools.  Never go near downed wires of any kind.  If you have any concern about your students getting safely to school, drive them if possible.

If you have access to internet, you can check the status of your individual address by going online at www.cl-p.com and follow the Storm Center links to your account information.  If power to your neighborhood is restored but your home is not, please report your continued outage to CL&P at 1-800-286-2000.  Your problem may be more localized or internal to your own electrical system.

As circuits are reenergized, extreme caution should be used near any downed wires.

I will provide another update Monday afternoon.

Thank you.
