Survey Results to Yield Improvements for Darien TV79

The recent online survey garnered 106 responses and the information gathered will be used to make improvements in station programming and the quality of the broadcasts, Channel 79 Program Director Jim Cameron said in a Darien Times report.

A of public access cable station Darien TV79 shows that nearly 60 percent stop watching town hall meetings as soon as they get bored, according to a report in The Darien Times.

The survey also shows that more than 97 percent of respondents were 35 or older, indicating an unsurprising disconnect between local government and town youth.

Numerous respondents suggested the station widen its programming to include coverage of other community events such as art shows. Viewers also suggested TV79 feature more “man-on-the-street” type stories and resident profiles, according to the Times report.

Other suggestions included “interviewing board and commission members, covering more meetings,” and “producing educational videos to discuss how town government operates,” according to the report.

Some viewers also complained that the sound quality was poor during certain broadcasts, making it difficult to hear what people were saying. Cameron told the Times the station is working to eliminate the sound quality problems, among other technical issues.
