A 22-year-old college student from Darien was found not guilty of assault by a Massachusetts judge who complained about a lack of cooperation from other students at a Beverly, MA party. The judge also criticized the police investigation.

It turns out that 15 of Darien's 80-plus food-serving establishments received "poor" or "fair" ratings in the Darien Health Department's three-tier ratings system, based on health inspections over the first quarter of the year. Darien Patch followed up on the initial report Friday by posting details about 14 of the inspections. Details of the inspections for one of the restaurants will be reported this coming week.

Darien Patch published a letter to the editor from Molly van Wagenen about the recent complaint filed with the state Department of Education by van Wagenen and more than 20 other parents of Darien special education students. She wrote that a memorandum not given to parents in a Freedom of Information Act request showed school officials making decisions about individual special education plans behind parents' backs, although federal law says the parents need to be involved in the decision-making. The Darien Times reported that parents say they came across a Power Point presentation by Special Education Director Deirdre Osypuk shows the same thing. School officials have denied that they've been leaving parents out of the loop on making these decisions.

It became known that a meeting including some state representatives and Darien town officials, among others, had occurred in Stamford as part of an effort to improve the condition of Holly Pond. Darien Patch's reporting of the meeting drew the ire of at least one town official, who posted a comment beneath the article.

Darien police reported that a Greenwich woman with vision problems at the Darien Metro-North Station jumped in to separate a dog who had jumped its leash and started fighting with her guide dog. The woman received an injury  later said on Facebook that she hurt her ankle and was in a cast, but recovering.

Among police reports this week, a home aide was arrested on charges she from the elderly Darien man for whom she was working; there were two alleged cases of driving while under the influence; charges were filed against a man police said was selling home improvement services without a soliciting permit or state license; and police described a strange case of vandalism involving food and shaving cream.
