It's the end of another summer story, and the beginning of a new fall chapter.

The show goes on, despite the fact that curtains are closing on another summer vacation. This past week saw Darien residents hard at work, setting the stage for a new school year. Here’s a recap:

In other transportation news, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that our MTA cars will be late, but that won’t spare us from the spared from the $1 fair hike, which will take affect shortly. All was relatively quiet for the fire departments, save from a number of false alarms. The Noroton Heights Fire Department brought their own heat – to the barbeque, at their annual family picnic.

Thursday:
Economy woes have caused the Board of Education to hesitate over field trip proposals, and in other financial news, new legislation protects seniors from financial scam artists. Senator Bob Duff came to the Darien Senior Activities center early in the week to discusses the law. The Darien Historical Society will dedicate the Scofield Barn addition later in the month.

Friday
:

Larry Vieira is the new Blue Wave Hockey coach, and he sees great success in the team’s future. Rory's, that little pub on the corner, continues to serve up stick-to-your-ribs fare - at a fair price.

Saturday:
“Pop pop pop.” It’s the sweet sound of Pilot Pen tugs on our sports editor’s heartstrings and has him coming back for more each summer. Himes continues his health-care listening tour tomorrow evening in Greenwich. And for those AP and Honors students leaving school preparation to the last minute, a reminder on your summer reading assignments.
