What's Open, Closed Around Thanksgiving

Here's what's open and what's closed on Thanksgiving and the days surrounding it in and around Darien.

Day by day, here's what's open and what's closed (for each day, in alphabetical order by boldfaced keyword or name). Most links go to each organization's holiday information Web page:

Wednesday, Nov. 23

CLOSED EARLY:

  • Darien public schools will be closed early (PDF)
  • Darien Library has announced it will close early, at 6 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 24

SPECIAL EVENT

  • The Turkey Bowl high school football game between Darien and New Canaan starts at 10:30 a.m. at New Canaan High School.

OPEN:

  • Darien YMCA—open 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Y members and their friends and families can attend a series of "special group exercise programs" that morning (more information on this will be posted later).
  • Metro-North says it "will operate a holi­day schedule with extra AM inbound service for those of you going to see the Macy’s Parade. And there will be lots of late morning and early afternoon outbound service to get you home or to the folks’ house for that holiday dinner. In the evening, there is plenty of service to get you back home, too."

SOME STORES

  • Best Buy—closed until midnight Thursday/Friday
  • Costco—closed
  • County TV and Appliance—9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • —open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (pharmacy open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • Dunkin Donuts—open 'round the clock, all year long. Every. Single. Day.
  • Grieb's Pharmacy—10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Heights Pizza—11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Home Depot in Norwalk—closed
  • Kohl's in Norwalk—opens midnight Thursday/Friday
  • Old Navy—most stores open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (they re-open at midnight, Thursday/Friday)—PDF
  • P.C Richard & Son in Norwalk—closed
  • Starbucks in Darien—5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Toys R Us—opens at 10 p.m.
  • —open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (pharmacy closed)

SOME SUPERMARKETS

  • Palmer's is closed
  • Stop & Shop (both Heights Road and Old Kings Highway South locations), 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (pharmacy closed all day)
  • All ShopRite and Grade A stores in Stamford and Norwalk—Closed
  • Whole Foods—7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Fairway Market is open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
