“Is America the Titanic sailing in the icy waters of the new global economy? What lessons can we learn both from Confucian wisdom and current Chinese problems?” These are the challenges Professor Ann Lee of New York University will raise in her talk “China’s Best Practices” on Thursday, January 31st, at 10 a.m. at the Darien Community Association. Her address will be the last morning lecture in the series “Making the World Go Round... Global Economics”.
Born in Hong Kong to parents who had escaped the turmoil of the early People’s Republic, Professor Lee was educated at U.C. Berkeley, Princeton and Harvard Business School. After working for two investment banks she became a hedge fund partner and a trader in credit derivatives.
Disillusioned by the corruption and greed she saw on Wall Street in 2006, Professor Lee left for academia-- targeting public policy reform. “I was disconcerted by the irregular deals-- Wall Street was making billions overseas on deals secured by nothing more than baseball trading cards.”
