Popular instructor Joan Allocca is back at the DCA to teach another Beginning Mah Jongg class in March.

Originally from China, Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy and calculation, with a certain degree of chance.  Played with a set of 136 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols, 4 players methodically select, pass and discard tiles, each with the hope of creating a legal hand. The DCA provides the Mah Jongg sets required for play.

This class will take the newcomer to Mah Jongg through understanding the tiles, using the Mah Jongg card, and rules of play, with several hours of practice.

Experienced instructor Joan Allocca teaches Mah Jongg classes at the DCA. Joan has been teaching Mah Jongg for many years, and has the patience but also a strategic approach to every hand, which she gladly shares with her students.

Classes will run over three Mondays, March 18, 25 and April 1, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Class fees covering the three dates are $85, or $65 for DCA members.  Class size is limited to 12 students.

To register for Beginning Mah Jongg, please contact the DCA at 203-655-9050 or info@dariendca.org. The DCA is located at 274 Middlesex Road in Darien.  For more information or to receive emails with upcoming programs and activities, please contact the DCA or view our website at dariendca.org
