After the wildly successful introduction of “Impressionist Salon” evening workshops in October, the Darien Arts Center welcomes “Monoprint and Monotype Explorations” a two day workshop aimed at Darien’s creative adults.

Exploring several processes and techniques (including painterly monotype, Styrofoam prints, stencil prints and plexi-intaglio) students make one-of-a kind images on an etching press.  This process, called monoprint and monotype, is ideal for experienced and beginning artists alike.

“My process is about being fearless about the unknown” says visiting instructor Roxanne Faber Savage. “Errors are embraced and appear as distressed, unclear ephemera giving exceptional meaning to the work.” Water based printing inks will be used. Dress for mess and bring lunch.

A multidisciplinary artist, Roxanne relies on printmaking as her primary art form. She is a seasoned educator on the Connecticut Commission on Culture and tourism Teaching Artist Roster. An award winning artist, she has received recognition for her innovative and original prints on paper, plastic, and metal. Roxanne has extensive education in printmaking and drawing, studying internationally in Italy and the U.S. She is affiliated with the Boston Printmakers and the New York Society of Etchers. Roxanne's fall 2012 schedule includes an Artist Residency at Weir Farm Art Center and Master Printing for artists at the CCP Monothon event.

Her works are featured in solo and invitational exhibitions, and are held in corporate and private collections. Select exhibition venues include:  440 Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), The National Arts Club (NY, NY), The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (Norwalk, CT), ArtSPACE (New Haven, CT), The Silvermine Guild Art Gallery (New Canaan) and LionHeart Gallery (Pound Ridge, NY). Roxanne teaches printmaking at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Creative Arts Workshop, and the Women's Studio Workshop (Rosendale, NY). Roxanne earned her BFA from Pratt Institute and an M.S. Ed. from Queens College.

The workshop will take place on November 28th and December 5th from 9:00am – 2:00pm. The DAC Visual Arts Studio is located at 2 Renshaw Road, Darien, CT. Early registration is required. For more information or to register, call the DAC Office at 203-655-8683 or email anne@darienarts.org.
