Preteen Girls and Bullying In the Era of Social Media

Bullying occurs in the classroom,

playground, neighborhood, sports fields, and at home.  With the growing popularity of social media, cyberbullying

is on the rise.  Girls often gossip,

harass and post negative comments online. 

This program will discuss the developmental tasks of preteen girls and

how social media can be a help or a hindrance. Strategies will be presented on
how you can raise your daughters to be resilient, independent and communicative
young women.


Laura van Riper, LCSW, is a
psychotherapist in private practice in Darien. 

She works with children, teens, and adults.  She earned her Master’s degree in clinical
social work from Columbia University and completed her undergraduate work at
Boston College. Laura has extensive post-graduate

training in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and addictions, and has

extensive knowledge of mind-body medicine and group work.
