Darien Eateries' Health Inspections: 5 Good, 2 Fair

In the most recent Health Department inspections, five restaurants and a supermarket were given a "Good" rating and two received a "Fair" rating.

In the most recently released health code inspection reports by the Darien Health Department, Five eating establishments in town scored "Good," and two were deemed "Fair."

The following list shows what scores local food-serving establishments received under the state scoring system ("state rating," in which 1-4 points are deducted for each violation, with 100 being a perfect score) from Darien Health Department inspectors.

The Health Department also gives a rating under the Darien system ("Darien rating," in which a "Good," "Fair," or "Poor" is given to restaurants that pass inspections). Also shown below are the inspection date and comments by the inspectors as noted in inspection reports. The comments, which each refer to a numbered list of state inspection elements (here omitted), are separated by semicolons (";"). Occasionally an inspector will make general comments at the end of the report.

Inspector's remarks: "Serving plates not stored inverted throughout establishment; no soap or hand towels at bar: hand sink; sanitizing concentrate not adequate in kitchen; undershelves of tables in kitchen unclean; granulars not labeled/not in original containers in kitchen; wiping cloths not kept in sanitizer solution in kitchen and sushi bar; cutting board grooved and unclean throughout kitchen; various foods uncovered in bain-marie (kitchen); soups temps OK 178 degrees/180 degrees/181 degrees; rice OK, 158 degrees."

Inspector's remarks: "Eggs stored over ready-to-eat foods (storage cooler); improper storage of in-use utensils; multiple food items stored on floor kitchen/storage; serving plates not stored inverted, also serving spoon; foods in ktichen left uncovered @ walk-in cooler; food equipment on cook line unclean; rags stored in hand sink in kitchen; no paper towel or soap at hand sink (bar area); rice #1 temp 155 degrees; rice #2 temp 163 degrees."
