Community Summit Meeting on Haitian Disaster Relief
The First Congregational Church of Darien is hosting a town-wide meeting to discuss relief efforts for the recent massive earthquake in Haiti. It will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 PM at 14 Brookside Road in Darien.
Susan Sanders of the national office of the United Church of Christ (UCC) will chair the meeting, which will be a local summit on charitable efforts to support Haiti in its time of need. Ms. Sanders, who is the UCC's Minister for Global Sharing of Resources, brings a wealth of experience and first-hand knowledge to this gathering. She will review current progress on relief efforts throughout Haiti, with "feet on the street" perspective of UCC's activities as well as that of other charitable organizations.

Though much of the reflections may come from the direct experience of the UCC's efforts in Haiti, this will be an ecumenical gathering, taking place in Darien's first and very historic Meetinghouse. Attendees will learn how relief money is being spent, what works and what doesn't, and participate in discussions about how we as a community can be most effective in lending our aid to this monumental effort.
All residents are encouraged to attend. There will be a freewill offering to support Haitian relief.

Susan M. Sanders is a life long member of the United Church of Christ and a native of Ohio. She currently serves as Minister and Team Leader for Global Sharing of Resources, with the UCC Wider Church Ministries, which involves guiding international community development, refugee, disaster, and volunteer ministries. She is a Board Member of Church World Service, Foods Resource Bank and Heifer International. Ms. Sanders is also the Wider Church Ministries liaison to the World Council of Churches Round Table.
Susan's ministry has carried her to visit with partners and monitor relief and development programs in 39 countries, including Haiti, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Liberia, Zimbabwe and most recently the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
