Give Through Darien's Giving Christmas Tree

Help out a struggling family in Darien with a small gift that will really be felt this Christmas -- all done through Darien's Department of Social Services and partner businesses in town.

You can bring a little Christmas cheer to a Darien child or family by taking one of the gingerbread man ornaments off one of the "Giving Trees" in town, buying one of several suggested items and turning it over (unwrapped) at one of various spots downtown.

The Giving Tree project, done in cooperation with local businesses and the Darien Department of Social Services has been a feature of Darien Christmases for years. All gifts go to children and families in Darien.

You can find the trees at Town Hall (as seen in the picture attached to this article), at the Darien Rowayton Bank, 1001 Post Rd.; at Halstead Property, 671 Post Rd. and at the YWCA Darien-Norwalk, 49 Old Kings Hwy. N.

Suggested gifts (according to the notice posted with the tree):

  • Feed a mind -- Give children's books, learning games or a gift card to Barrett Bookstore
  • Spread the holiday joy -- Give a gift card for Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, Walgreens or Old Navy
  • Buy a holiday meal -- Give a gift card for Stp & Shop or Shoprite
  • Help a neighbor get to work -- Give a gas gift certificate
  • Keep a Family Warm -- Write a check to Darien Social Services Gift Fund to pay for heat
  • Give a gift of clothing -- socks, hats, gloves, scarves or sweat pants for girls and boys
  • Make a wish come true -- Give trucks, cars, sports balls, dolls, snow sled or electronic toys
Once you've got the gift -- remember not to wrap it -- take it to one of the Giving Tree locations or to Room 109 in Town Hall where someone from Darien Social Services will gratefully accept it and pass it on.
