Good Intentions

"It's all about the intention," says Total Body class instructor, Martha Guttuso, as her class at Flair Fitness Darien is doing triceps curls. "Concentrate and squeeze that muscle. If you don't feel it burn a little, you are probably not doing it right," she adds. Martha and the other fitness professionals at Flair are often demonstrating the best posture for an exercise move, or reminding their students to relax their shoulders ("Keep your shoulders out of your ears and elongate your necks!"), or encouraging them to bend their legs more and get deeper into a lunge or squat. Thinking about the moves you are doing, rather than just doing them half-heartedly, will get you better results. It's not a bad way to live your life either!
