Charity Desperate for Frozen Thanksgiving Turkeys

Give a gobbler! Turkeys are needed for 4,000+ Thanksgiving Dinner Pantry Boxes the Mission will distribute to near-homeless and impoverished families in Bridgeport and South Norwalk

Bridgeport Rescue Mission desperately needs donations of frozen turkeys to ensure needy families can prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

“We’re grateful to Howard Saffan and Webster Bank Arena for opening their doors to host this year’s Great ThanksGiving Project turkey and coat distribution in Bridgeport and to Grace Baptist Church, our distribution site in Norwalk," Bridgeport Rescue Missions exec director Terry Wilcox said in a release.

The turkeys will be included in the more than 4,000 Thanksgiving Dinner Pantry Boxes the Mission will distribute to near-homeless and impoverished families in Bridgeport and South Norwalk.  They will also be used in the Thanksgiving Day dinners the Mission will provide to hungry and homeless people from their Mobile Kitchen and in the meals that will be served to Mission students and needy men, women and children from their main dining room.

Executive Director Terry Wilcox said the Mission needs to receive 4,000 frozen turkeys—12 to 24 pounds each—to ensure no one in need will go without a turkey for Thanksgiving.

“But right now we’re running far short of the number we must have on hand to begin packing our Pantry Boxes and preparing for our Thanksgiving meals,” Wilcox said.  “When our Mission friends know of this pressing need, I’m confident they’ll come through for us as they always do.  We can never have too many turkeys!  If the outpouring is so great that we receive more than we need for Thanksgiving, we’ll use them throughout the year.”
