What's Open, Closed Good Friday, Easter Weekend
State & local governments in Connecticut close on Good Friday, but the U.S. government and Post Offices stay open. Here are other closings & openings.
Good Friday is a holiday for the state of Connecticut and many local governments and schools, but not the federal government or post offices.
Darien public schools, the Darien Nature Center and the Depot youth center are all closed on Monday, as well.

Department of Motor Vehicles and AAA offices
Holiday schedule for American Automobile Association offices and major service centers, including the Norwalk Office:
- Friday: The Norwalk Office is closed all day. "All AAA offices will be open to process renewals for driver licenses and non-driver ID cards during their normal business hours on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19."
- Saturday: Norwalk Office is open for normal business hours, starting at 8 a.m. AAA offices are open.
- Monday: The Norwalk Office is closed, as usual. AAA offices are open.
- Tuesday: The department reopens for business with normal business hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Good Friday
Good Friday Darien events:- Ecumenical 'Cross Walk': "The churches of Darien come together on Good Friday at First Congregational Church (14 Brookside Rd.) at 10:30 a.m. to carry the cross of Christ through town to St. Luke’s Episcopal, where we arrive at approximately 11:45 a.m."
CLOSED
- Darien Town Hall and offices are closed (but the Recycling Center/Transfer station is open).
- Connecticut state offices are closed.
- Connecticut state courts are closed.
- Darien Public Schools (PDF of 2013-2014 school calendar) — schools are closed all week for the April break and a "staff development day" on Monday. Schools reopen Tuesday, April 22.
- The YWCA of Darien/Norwalk is closed.
- Darien Nature Center is closed.
- The Depot youth center is closed for April break through Monday, April 21.
- The Darien Senior Activities Center is closed.
- The New York Stock Exchange and much of the financial industry are closed.
OPEN:
- Darien Recycling Center/Transfer Station is open.
- U.S. government offices are open.
- Post offices are open.
- Darien YMCA is open only from 5 a.m. to noon.
- Banks in Connecticut have the option of opening or closing. According to state policy: "Connecticut banks and credit unions are required to give at least two weeks’ advance notice to their customers of holiday openings and closings by posting such notice in the lobby of each office." TD Bank is open.
- Darien Library is open.
- CT Transit bus service in Stamford and Darien has regular service on Good Friday.
- Norwalk Transit District offices are open on Good Friday as is regular Wheels bus service around Norwalk.
Saturday
OPEN
- Darien Recycling Center/Transfer Station is open.
- Darien YMCA is open as usual.
- Darien Library is open as usual.
- Darien Nature Center is open as usual, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
CLOSED
- The Depot youth center is closed for April break through Monday, April 21.
Easter Sunday
CLOSED
- Darien YMCA is closed.
- Darien Library is closed.
- The Depot youth center is closed for April break through Monday, April 21.
- CT Transit bus service in Stamford and Darien is shut down on Easter Sunday.
- Norwalk Transit District bus service is closed on Sunday, as usual.
Monday

Transportation
- CT Transit bus service in Stamford and Darien has regular service on Good Friday and is shut down on Easter Sunday.
- Norwalk Transit District offices are open on Good Friday as is regular Wheels bus service around Norwalk (also running on Saturday). Bus service is closed on Sunday, as usual. For other services, see its schedule on the website.
- Trains: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority website has announecd no schedule changes for Good Friday or Easter Sunday on the New Haven Line or any other service.
