Serve Burrata Cheese At Your Next Gathering!

Burrata (pronounced boo-RAH-ta) is a fresh italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. The texture is very silky on the outside and gooey and delicious on the inside (the center contains mozzarella shreds soaked in cream) - when you cut into the burrata, the cream oozes out irresistibly. Burrata comes from the word “burro” which means butter in Italian, referring to the cheese's buttery taste and texture.

The flavor and different textures of this cheese go very well with crostini, fresh or roasted tomatoes, cracked pepper, pasta or on a pizza. The possibilities are endless. It also adds a bit of a unique twist to the usual mozzarella salad. You can pick up a Burratta Ball from some supermarkets and at specialty food stores, Italian markets, and cheese shops... it is even available at Trader Joe's.

I crumbled the fresh Burrata cheese all over my homemade pizza and served it to family at a gathering this past weekend. See attached photo.

Below is another great Burrata recipe that I found and is the perfect appetizer to serve your guests.

Burrata Cheese Crostini with Basil Oil

Ingredients:
Burrata Cheese sliced into 1/4 inch thick cuts
4 tablespoons basil
6 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
6 slices good, crusty bread, toasted

Directions:
Slice the burrata and place on top of the crostini. Drizzle it with half of the olive oil and season with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper. Add the basil, vinegar, and remainder of olive oil into a food processor. Then drizzle mixture over the burrata cheese crostini and garnish with fresh basil leaves.

Enjoy!
