Darien Building Permits Jump 23%

The Darien Building Deparment has been in full swing this year as building permits have increased 23 percent, according to Megan Spicer's reporting on Friday's Darien News website.

Demolition permits since January have primaily been in Darien's Noroton Bay area as a result of Hurrican Sandy.

Twenty-three homeowners in the bay received permits to demolish their houses.  Many of them also received permits to lift and construct new dwellings.

Forty-three demolition permits have been issued since January 1, Spicer wrote.

Nearly 500 building permits have been issued since January, not all related to Hurricane Sandy.

Lisa Mason, the building department's office administrator, said almost 10 demolition permits came through the office in May.

"It's just unheard of," Mason said.

Today's Stamford Advocate carries a similar story.
