Manhattan Mansion Sells for $14 Million
A rare, free-standing mansion in Manhattan near Columbia University has sold for $14 million -- $500,000 above its asking price, Alyssa Abkowitz reports on today's WallStreetJournal.com.
The 12,000-square-foot marble townhouse has 12 bedroooms and 14 bathrooms. It was built in 1909 for Turkish tobacco baron Morris Schinasi. The listing broker said the house has a lot of character but "needs a lot of work."
It came on the market for $31 million in 2006. It was reduced to $30 million in 2007. In 2009, the price was lowered to $24.5 million. In 2011, it was reduced to $20 million, then later in the year to $15 million. This year, the price was cut to $13.5 million.
