Richard Ford, praised as one of America’s finest storytellers, will speak about his new novel, Canada, a suspenseful misadventure which reveals the darker side of the American experience, at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Darien Library, 1441 Post Road, Darien.
The event will be co-sponsored by Barrett Bookstore, which selected Ford’s New York Times bestselling work as its Winter Book Club Book Pick and will sell signed copies after the program.
Amidst the backdrop of the desolate beauty of Montana and Saskatchewan, the novel focuses on the reminiscences of a 15-year-old boy, Dell, who is forced to leave home when his parents are imprisoned after a failed bank robbery.
Delving into the soul of one of his most finely wrought characters, Ford chronicles the boy’s dysfunctional home life and his flight to Canada.
Ford fills his world with vividly-depicted characters set in unusual circumstances in an understated, yet powerful style.
