Police Sgt. Terri Vitti Loses Battle with Cancer

The veteran Stamford Police sergeant served the department for 28 years.

Sgt. Terri Vitti, a 28-year veteran of the Stamford Police Department, died Tuesday morning, months after being diagnosed with lung, brain and bone cancer. She was 51.

Vitti served in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Division, the Communications Division, and the SPA's executive board. Her husband, Officer Mark Vitti, serves with Stamford's K-9 Unit.

"As a police chief, I have gained insight into the many qualities that police officers must possess and in that internal knowledge I can unequivocally state that Terri Vitti was an excellent police officer," Chief Jon Fontneau told The Stamford Advocate

Back in December, the Stamford Police Association held a benefit for Vitti at Zodie's 19th Hole in Stamford.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
