Vincent Berry, 72, Retired PricewaterhouseCoopers Executive

A religious service will take place July 11 at St. Thomas More Church in Darien for Vincent Berry, who passed away on June 24, a longtime resident of New Canaan.

Vincent (Vince) Paul Berry of Vero Beach, FL passed away on June 24, 2014.  Vince retired there with his wife, Marion, from New Canaan, CT at the conclusion of his 41 year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Born in Philadelphia on Oct. 19, 1941 to Vincent Paul Berry and Anna M. (Fehrenbach) Berry, he was educated in the parochial schools and attended La Salle University. He graduated in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Upon graduation, Vince married his high school sweetheart, Marion Williams, and moved to Buffalo, New York to begin his career at Price Waterhouse & Co.  It was during their 15 years in Buffalo that his three children were born: Vincent, David and Nicole.

Harkening back to his varsity career, he enjoyed the professional sports of the area, routinely attending the football, basketball and hockey games with his children.

After a brief tour in the Pittsburgh office in 1978, Vince accepted a transfer in 1979 to the New York City office where he worked for 27 years. During that time, he participated in the merger of Price Waterhouse & Co. with Coopers & Lybrand resulting in PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In 2004, he retired as Managing Director, US Partner Affairs from PricewaterhouseCoopers.  During his extensive career, he was regarded as a gentleman and consummate professional by his peers and all who knew him.  Many sought his counsel and advice.  He loved his time with the firm and the people with whom he worked.

After retiring, Vince enjoyed focusing on his family and renewing friendships.  He spent time visiting his children and grandchildren and welcoming family and friends to his home.

He traveled for pleasure, regaling all with humorous stories of folding his 6-foot, 8-inch frame into ships, planes and buses not built to accommodate people of his size.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marion (Williams) Berry, his three children, Vincent of San Rafael, CA, David of Vienna, VA and Nicole of Fairfield, CT with their spouses, and five grandchildren.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Thomas and Paul, both of Philadelphia, PA and their spouses, Marion’s five siblings and spouses, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.  He was known to all as our Gentle Giant.

A Celebration of Life will take place on July 11, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, CT 06820.  Visiting will begin at 10 AM.
