William Rowe, 83, Deacon at St. John Church

Deacon William Rowe, who passed away Aug. 10, will lie in state at St. John R.C. Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday in the church.

William K. Rowe, a life-long resident of Darien, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Stamford Hospital.  Born on February 12, 1930 in New York City, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Genevieve Kane Rowe, Sr.

William attended Darien schools and graduated from Darien High School in 1948.  He attended Cooper Union in New York City.  He served with the U. S. Army in Korea with the Fifth Regimental Combat Team.  He was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal (with two bronze service stars), the United Nations Service medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was a longtime, retired carpenter with Carpenter Union Local 210.  He was also involved with Darien Little League, serving as president for 10 years.  He was also instrumental in getting the Pony League field built at Baker Field.

William was also a life-long parishioner of St. John R.C. Church, and in June of 1981, he was ordained as a permanent deacon at St. John R.C. Church.

He is survived by his wife Mildred B. Rowe who he married in 1951; two sons, William K. Rowe, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Olney, MD and James A. Rowe and his wife, Bella, of Westport, CT; and five grandchildren, Emily, Emma, Jessica, William III and Eve Rowe.  He is also survived by one brother, Walter T. Rowe, Jr. of Stamford.  He was predeceased by a brother, James C. Rowe.

Deacon William Rowe will lie in state at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
