The news is rife with divisions; factions of one sort or another press their advantage against "the enemy." Both sides carry heated conviction about their position, dialing up the rhetoric as a substitute for understanding.
This adversarial posture extends beyond the political sphere to the spiritual, where the irony of the aggression is flabbergasting. Sometimes the scale seems so vast that a personal approach to addressing it seems hopeless. How do you achieve insight and understanding amid such tidal forces of ignorance and conflict?
Attending an interfaith conversation at St. Luke's Parish, Darien, on Sept. 21, represents a beginning. The subject is Jesus and the perspectives are: Hebrew, Sufi (Muslim) and Christian. You will be shocked, possibly embarrassed, at what you do not know. But the biggest emotion will be relief. We have so much in common to celebrate. Start small. Give this event a try.
The discussion will be held this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Luke’s Parish's Youth and Community Center. Learn more about the event by clicking here or by phone at 203-655-1456.
