Day 11 - Thank Goodness for SPANX!

Day 11 consists of hand made delicious cheeses... thank goodness I had SPANX! I'm really starting to feel the toll all of this delicious Italian food is taking on my body!

Let’s raise a glass in thanks……..for Spanx! I apologize for the cheesiness, but I really like the wine glass picture that I took and needed to tie it in with today’s topic, which is the fact that I official feel like a fat cow! I can’t believe I still have 9 days of eating (and drinking) left! With that said, I’m going to put it out of my mind and enjoy this amazing experience. I would appreciate it if everyone would refrain from making any fat jokes when I return!

Today’s adventure began at the most amazing farm, Azienda Agricola Cavalli, in Pomerico. The property is almost 900 acres and they are almost completely self sufficient. They make extra virgin olive oil from the Frantoio, Coratino and Lecchino olives grown on the property, a wide variety of cheeses including an incredible Moliterno IGP made from their own sheep and goats milk and they produce enough solar energy to power the entire farm, plus some of the surrounding town. They even grow all of their own grains that they turn into feed for the animals.

After taking a spectacular drive around the property, the owner, Silvia Cavalli, took us to her charming little chateaux for a lovely lunch of olive oil and cheeses. I know that I just said earlier how fat I’m feeling, but let me tell you, I went TO TOWN on that cheese! It was so delicious and it will definitely be making a debut at the store.

In the evening we drove to our next hotel, located in Alberobello. We had a few hours off, so of course all of the women when shopping! I bought a spectacular dress made by a local designer.

Dinner was with hosted by Tarallificio dei Trulli, a local company that makes these super addictive Taralli snacks. The dinner was crazy, I swear we had at least 12 different antipasto courses, followed by a mixed grill plate ( pork, sausages, liver and beef) and a huge bowl of fruit. By the way the 6 of us attacked the fruit, you would have thought we were starving to death, but it’s been so long since we’ve seen any fresh fruit that we figured we better get it while we can.

Tomorrow we go to a new hotel where we will be staying for 3 nights! I am really looking forward to unpacking and doing some much needed laundry.

Ciao for now,

Megan
