First County Bank Foundation Supports Person-to-Person Emergency Assistance Program with $5,000 Grant

For more than 12 years, First County Bank Foundation has distributed funds to non-profit organizations that support community and economic development for children and families. This spring, First County Bank Foundation awarded $5,000 to the Emergency Assistance Program at Person-to-Person (P2P).

“It’s incredibly important to reach out and help others in need,” said Katherine Harris, First County Bank President and COO, and Vice President of the Foundation. “We are pleased to ‘pay back’ the local communities in which we do business by supporting organizations such as Person-to-Person.”

Through the Emergency Assistance Program, P2P helps low-income individuals and families at their moment of need by providing food – enough groceries for clients to prepare three meals a day for seven days, as well as gently-used shoes and clothing. Executive Director Ceci Maher notes that when clients do not have to buy clothing or food, they are able to spend their earnings on other basic necessities. “But sometimes they still need additional assistance – with rent payments, security deposits or utility bills – and we provide that also.”

Despite the improving economy, there are hundreds of people throughout Lower Fairfield County in need of assistance. “P2P is able to help thanks to the generosity of First County Bank Foundation and other corporate good citizens,” says Maher. “And we are most grateful for their support.”
