$15-20K in Jewelry Taken from Talmadge Hill Rd Home

A husband and wife each thought the other had made a bit of a mess at home as they came and went one Monday -- instead, it was a burglar.

A husband and wife each noticed a little messiness at their home on the New Canaan side of Talmadge Hill Road, but they each attributed it to the other spouse.

But it turns out it was the aftermath of a burglary in which $15,000 to $20,000 in jewelry was taken from the home, police said.

New Canaan police gave this account of the matter:

On Monday, March 24, the husband initially left the house at 8 a.m., and his wife followed at 8:45 a.m. The husband returned at 11 a.m. His wife returned to the house later and left again.

At about 4:30 p.m., the husband, 45, realized something was wrong and called his wife and police.

Police found a back window that had been forced open to gain entry. Several pieces of jewelry were missing, including ear rings, necklaces and rings.

Editor's note: Here are some tips from a Connecticut police department on how to help prevent burglaries at your home (although we're not saying it would have made a difference in this case).
