17-Year-Old Girl Crashes Jeep, Charged with DUI

The girl, who police say was driving while under the influence of alcohol, was uninjured when her Jeep ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

A 17-year-old Darien girl crashed the Jeep she was driving on Three Wells Lane last Sunday, then was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was uninjured.

The crash took place at about 11:30 p.m. when the girl drove off the roadway and struck a tree, causing both airbags to deploy in the 2008 Jeep Liberty.

A police officer who arrived at the scene immediately smelled alcohol coming from the girl, who failed sobriety tests. She was arrested and later released to her mother on a $200 bond.

The girl is scheduled to appear Aug. 15 in court.
