9 Overnight Thefts from Unlocked Cars in Darien

Hundreds of dollars in goods were reported stolen over the weekend from cars parked in private driveways near Cherry Lawn Park.

are warning residents to lock their vehicles, following a rash of motor vehicle burglaries over the weekend in driveways of homes near .

According to Capt. Frederick W. Komm, police either discovered or received reports of nine “break-ins” overnight from Friday to Saturday, with hundreds of dollars worth of possessions stolen.

“We urge people to lock their cars,” Komm said.

A neighbor of one Woodley Road resident whose 2001 Audi 4AQ was entered told police that she saw her motion detector lights activate around 3 a.m. Saturday, “So it might be connected with the burglaries,” Komm said.

The victim’s unlocked Audi was parked in the garage, but the garage door was open. Items had been strewn about the passenger seat and floor though nothing was missing from the vehicle.

Other vehicles entered and reported stolen possessions include (all vehicles unlocked):

  • 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, Marianne Road: Glove box open and contents strewn on the floor. The owners said the vehicle was parked around 9 p.m. Friday. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • 2010 Jaguar XF, Ridge Acres Road: Two bags of quarters stolen, about $20 worth.
  • 2003 Mercedes e500: An LL Bean gym bag containing clothes and running shoes stolen, about $445 worth of possessions total.
  • 2007 Honda Accord, Ridge Acres Road: Nothing taken.
  • 1997 Volvo 850, Ridge Acres Road: Nothing taken.
  • 2005 Honda Element, Ridge Acres Road: iPod valued at $160 stolen.
  • 2010 Honda CRV, Ridge Acres Road: Nothing taken. This Honda and the above-listed SUV belong to the same owner, who reported that the vehicles were last checked around 8 p.m. Friday, and burglaries discovered at 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Marianne Road: Two bags were removed and items contained within included clothes, magazines, sunglasses, Bluetooth and books—a total value of $100. One of the bags was found at the end of the driveway around 5:45 a.m., a neighbor discovered the other at 7:45 a.m.
