Another Catalytic Converter Stolen at a Train Station in Darien

The latest theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle in a Fairfield County parking lot will cost an estimated $4,000 to replace, Darien poice were told.

Three catalytic converters were stolen from Darien parking lots in late May. Others have been stolen elsewhere in Fairfield County.

The theft appears to have occurred on Friday, June 6 but wasn't reported to police until June 11, after the victim got a damage estimate from a mechanic and the victim's insurance company wanted a police report.

At about 7:30 a.m. a commuter parked a 2004 Toyota Sequoia SUV in the lot at the Noroton Heights Metro-North Station on the eastbound-trains side of the tracks (the side nearest Interstate 95).

At 7 p.m. that day, the commuter returned and had trouble starting the sport utility vehicle. A mechanic later informed the owner that the catalytic converter was missing.
