Assault & Pastry? Report of Odd Weapon in Fight
No medical treatment was required and no assault charges were made when a wife was struck by this particular choice of weapon, Darien police say; but her husband was arrested.
The bad news is that, according to police, an argument between a 65-year-old husband and his wife escalated into violence, with the husband striking his wife with an object.
The good news is that the object was a 12-by-12-inch box containing a cake, according to police reports, and no medical treatment was required, although in some circumstances even a cake box might cause serious harm. She was hit in the face, police said.
Darien police gave this account of the matter:

Police received a report that at about 10 p.m. on Feb. 4, the domestic argument at a home on Shields Lane escalated into violence with a cake box. By the time police arrived, the husband had already departed.
All attempts to contact the husband later proved fruitless. Police then applied for a warrant for his arrest, and a judge approved it.

On Feb. 27, the husband stopped in at the police station to get a copy of the police report on the incident. He was informed of the warrant on a charge of disorderly conduct, received it and was released on a promise to appear Feb. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
