Cops: Darien Teen Menaced, Pointing Pellet Gun in NY

Carmel, NY police have charged a 19-year-old Darien man with pointing a pellet gun at a couple as he was riding in an SUV by a reservoir.

William Pfeiffer, 19, of Darien pointed what looked like a pistol at a couple in Carmel, NY Friday as he stood through the sunroof of a passing Land Rover, Carmel police said.

The gun turned out to be a pellet pistol, police said.

While returning to their car, the couple again saw a man standing through the sunroof of the same sport utility vehicle on Rt. 301 in Carmel, again holding what appeared to be a gun in his hand, police said.

Pfeiffer was later arrested on charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of second-degree menacing.

Carmel police gave this account of the incident and arrest:

After the couple reported the incident to authorities at about 1 p.m., law enforcement officers from area police agencies canvassed the area, looking for a black Land Rover.

They found a vehicle fitting the description parked in a driveway on Route 301 and contacted the occupants of the vehicle, who met police at the home where the Land Rover was parked. Pfeiffer was then arrested. He was released on a promise to appear Sept. 24 in Carmel Town Court.
