Cops: DUI, Evading Charges for Darien Man Near Town Hall

A 47-year-old intoxicated Darien man hit a parked car on Renshaw Road at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, then drove off, parking his car in the Town Hall lot before he was arrested, according to police reports.

Darien police gave this account of the incident and arrest:

Michael Shaughnessy was driving his 2011 Honda Odyssey on Renshaw Road when his car collided with a 2008 Toyota sport utility vehicle legally parked on the street.

After the collision, Shaughnessy drove his car into a Town Hall parking lot. He was walking along Renshaw Road when police saw him.

A witness to the accident gave a description of the incident to police, who spoke with Shaughnessy. They observed that his speech was slurred, and they could smell alcohol on him. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.

Police charged Shaughnessy of 117 Hollow Tree Ridge Rd. with driving while under the influence, evading responsibility and making an improper turn. He posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear June 18 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
