A Darien woman was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated Tuesday after her car got wedged between a lamp post and a tree at .
It appeared that it was only the obstacles the driver struck that were "preventing the vehicle from traveling into the pond," according to a news release from the Darien Police Department.
The DUI arrest was one of three by last week. The other two involved Norwalk men. Police gave these accounts of the incidents:
Sedgwick Avenue and Tilley Pond Park (Tuesday)
At 10:24 p.m. Tuesday, a town resident called police to say the car had entered the park from Sedgwick Avenue and there appered to be something wrong.
Police observed that front of the 2011 Subaru Outback was heavily damaged. The driver, Jammi Jones, 51, of 246 Noroton Ave., "appeared disoriented and confused, and was having difficulty maintaining her balance," according to the news release.
Police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Jones, and she couldn't explain how she had gotten into the accident. She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while under the influence and failure to drive right.
Jones was later released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear April 27 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
Post Road near Nearwater Lane (April 16)
At about 1:04 a.m. Monday, April 16, police officer stopped a jeep on the Post Road near Nearwater Lane as it traveled westbound, straddling the center line.
After stopping the 1995 Jeep Cherokee, the police officer smelled alcohol on the driver, Anibel Martinez, 33, of 221 Ely Ave., Norwalk.
Martinez failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, operating with a suspended license and failure to drive right. He later posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear April 27 in state Superior Court in Stamford
Post Road and West Norwalk Road (Friday)
At about 1:53 a.m. Friday, a police officer saw a 2012 Mercedes Benz E32 cross over the center line several times as it traveled east on the Post Road near Richmond Drive.
With police lights and the siren on, the officer tried to get the driver to pull over to the side of the road as it passed into Norwalk and made an improper turn onto West Norwalk Road.
But the driver, Wayne Mazur, 53, didn't stop until he reached his driveway at 6 Riverwalk Ln. in Norwalk.
The officer smelled alcohol on Mazur, who also failed a field sobriety test. Mazur was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive right and making an improper turn. He was later released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear May 1 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
