Cops: Boozy Driver on Hillside Ave Thought He Was in Rye, NY

A Bronx, NY man was confused when he spoke with police, and he was later charged with DWI -- driving while under the influence of alcohol.

When police approached Fernando Morfin at about 3:27 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, as he was slumped over the wheel of his pickup truck, his head resting on the steering wheel, they asked him if he knew where he was.

In Rye, NY, he replied, according to a police report, "in front of my friend's house."

In fact, police said, the 32-year-old Bronx resident was on Hillside Avenue, his car stopped in the northbound lane, the keys in the ignition and the gear in park.

The officer noticed the strong smell of alcohol when talking with Morfin, who later failed his field sobriety tests, police said.

Police charged Morfin, of Third Avenue in the Bronx, with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a driver's license. He was held until he later posted a $500 bond pending an appearance Thursday, Aug. 15, in state Superior Court in Stamford.

The Connecticut Judicial Branch website had no further information late Thursday on any future appearances in court.
