Cops: Man Delays Paying $220 for Deli's Catered Food, then No Payment

Was a Darien deli defrauded? If police arrest the suspect, he'll certainly be in a pickle.

When a Darien man came to get his $220 in catered food from Abello's Deli last week, he told Deli staff his kids took his wallet, so he couldn't pay immediately, according to Darien police.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

They handed over the food to the man on Wednesday, June 18, expecting to get paid when he got his wallet back. They never heard back from him.

The owner of the deli at 72 Tokeneke Rd. (near the Interstate 95 overpass) called him several times. He left voice mail messages for the Darien man. No response.

Police were contacted and are investigating the matter. Police have left their own voice message for the man: Either pay for the food or police will apply for an arrest warrant.

As of Monday, police hadn't made an arrest.
