A 41-year-old Darien man was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after a motor vehicle accident in which he improperly turned in front of a motor scooter downtown, Darien police said.
Police gave this account of the incident:
At about 1 a.m., Willett Moore of 26 Pembroke Rd. was driving at the intersection of the Post Road and Mansfield Avenue when he turned his vehicle in front of a motor scooter, causing a collision.
Neither Moore nor the motor scooter rider was injured in the accident, but police were called. When an officer arrived and spoke with Moore, the officer could smell alcohol on him.
Moore acknowledged that he drank several drinks that evening. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.
