Darien Man Charged with Possession, Intent to Sell Marijuana

Darien police, executing an arrest warrant on Thursday, charged a local, 19-year-old man with selling drugs and then found marijuana on him, police said.

Police gave this account of the incident:

Rashad Mitchell, who lives at the Avalon Apartments complex at 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, was wanted on an arrest warrant charging him with third-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana (more than half an ounce), and possession of marijuana with intent to sell it. According to the warrant, the crimes were committed in September.

A police spokesman did not have the details from the warrant, which would normally become public on Oct. 7, after Mitchell appears in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police, who were trying to locate him to serve the arrest warrant, saw him in the back seat of a moving sport utility vehicle in the parking lot.

When Mitchell was taken into custody, police found two plastic baggies with marijuana residue in a vitamin supplement bottle which was in a backpack.

Mitchell became so upset when he was arrested that he banged his head against a police vehicle, putting a dent in it.

He was initially held on a $10,000 bond, then released after it was posted.
