This Year's Thanksgiving Football Incident: Stolen Sign

A football sign was stolen from Darien High School grounds over Thanksgiving Day weekend, police were told on Dec. 4 -- the latest in a string of misbehavior incidents occurring around the Turkey Bowl.

No silly or serious criminal incidents related to Blue Wave Football occurred in the run-up to this year's Darien-New Canaan Turkey Bowl, nor on Thanksgiving itself, but Darien didn't escape Thanksgiving Weekend without one:

This year a sign for the football schedule was stolen from Darien High School grounds sometime between 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, and 12:30 p.m. the next day.

The 7-foot-by-3-foot white, corrugated plastic sign was used to post schedule information for Blue Wave football games. The value of the sign is estimated to be $200.

In previous years, surrounding the Turkey Bowl game, there have been these incidents with some connection to the Darien football team:

  • In 2012, a New Canaan Rams team member's equipment bag was urinated on in the visitors' locker room by one of five young men, some of whom had previously been on the football team.
  • In 2011, some football team members were prevented from playing in the Turkey Bowl after it was learned they were at a party with alcohol in which a former team member was charged with beating up another high school student.
