Darien Police Dept. Has a Christmas Gift Idea: Bike Locks

The man or woman who has everything probably doesn't, so if you're looking for a gift, Darien Police Department recommends a very good bicycle lock.

The department, in association with the town Department of Public Works and Boy Scout Troop 35, this year installed bicycle racks at both Darien train stations to encourage use of more than one lock -- another way of preventing bicycle thefts that have plagued the stations over the years.

In a Facebook post, the Police Department said:

"Looking for gift ideas for your Darien commuter? A tried-and-true bike lock is a must these days to protect that new bike or scooter.

"Bicycling magazine recently tested several different types of bike locks. Surprisingly, the best lock for your bike may depend on where you live.

"Since most thieves only carry one type of tool, the Darien Police Department recommends securing your ride with two different types of locks. Darien’s new bike racks at the Noroton Heights and Darien Train Stations were designed for this purpose, so please double-lock!"
