A Whole Foods employee has been arrested on a charge of stealing thousands of dollars by scanning items off the shelves and taking money for them.

A cashier at Whole Foods stole $4,420 from the supermarket by scanning items from the shelves and then taking cash for them, according to police.

Police arrested Jessica Wilson, 24, of 463 Cove Rd., Stamford. Darien Police Captain Frederick W. Comm, commander of the investigative services bureau, gave this account of the circumstances surrounding arrest:

It appears that Wilson was stealing from the store at 150 Ledge Rd. in this way since January 2011. The store's management made a complaint to police on Jan. 6.

Wilson admitted to the thefts, but said she didn't believe she had taken that much money. Police, however, say they have supporting documentation that $4,420 was the amount stolen.

On Thursday Wilson was arrested on a warrant charged with fourth-degree larceny. She was released on a promise to appear March 19 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
