Darien Teen Charged in New Canaan Accident

The toxicology report revealed no alcohol in the driver's system.

The 11-person  at Smith Ridge and Michigan Road on June 22 has resulted in the arrest of the teenage Darien driver of the Suburban on various charges, including possession of alcohol by a minor on a public street.

The teenager was also charged with four counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, motor vehicle passenger restriction (drivers under the age of 18 who have had their license for less than a year are not permitted to have passengers other than family), transporting more passengers than available seatbelts, and failure to obey a stop sign, said New Canaan Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. 

According to New Canaan police, toxicology reports indicated that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

The driver posted $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 22, said Ogrinc. 

The other eight teens in the Suburban were not charged with anything, said Ogrinc.
