A Darien woman, 26, was driving while under the influence of alcohol at 1:16 a.m. Sunday when she hit a car parked on Ledge Road, police said.
Darien police gave this account of the incident:
Shortly before 1:16 a.m. on Sunday (when the incident was reported to police), Amanda Rivers of 6 Miles Rd. was driving a 2005 Jeep Cherokee west on Ledge Road.
She struck an unoccupied, properly parked 2009 BMW on the side of the road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
A police officer who spoke with Rivers at the scene noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her. Rivers failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. When her vehicle was searched, police found in the center console a plastic sandwich bag holding marijuana.
Rivers was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of less than ½ ounce of marijuana, and making an improper turn. She posted a $250.00 bond and was scheduled to appear Jan. 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
